I’ve always looked at intimate portraiture as something to be displayed in a museum, honoring the visual craft that lies before us. Maybe I’m too much of an old soul, but I find the representation of art in the media to lack appreciation. Everything now is about creating content and getting money fast. It’s beautiful how accessible things are to us, but at the same time we’ve lost our genuine sense of gratitude. This is the most important ingredient of all, it’s what gives our work value because we discover kinship by giving our work meaning.
This is how I see my craft, and how I’ll continue too. Even if I’m the singular “old lady” standing amidst the mountain by herself, at least this way I’ll be remaining true to my purpose. My contribution to society will always be towards helping people, giving them more than just inspiration, but giving them hope. Encouraging those to set themselves free by living authentically and removing the facade of perfection we’ve created within this digital age.
There was once a time where people would leap at the opportunity to explore pieces of history, they would spend their time gawking at ancient relics and be completely in awe of what it took to make something so beautiful. We weren’t obsessed with instant gratification, but the elongation process of fully taking something in, being present with art. It was like an emotive dance between the artist and ourselves, we were trying to look inside the mind of that person and imagine what they were feeling when they created something so precious. This form of connection was untethered, for we had to look inside of ourselves in order to achieve this state of serenity.
This is the power of art, and the origin of its meaning: connection.
Connection to self is how we connect to those around us.
Vulnerability → emotional intimacy → self expression. These are the elements which swirl within our minds, bodies, and our spirits bringing forth creation.
I’m excited to have a new sacred space to honor this once more. I’m excited to feel closer to you by expressing my deepest desires, my strongest emotions, and my most courageously vulnerable way of being.
My heart is warmed by your support lovelies. I hope you’ll continue joining me for the next chapters of my life, to see where my work takes me and to only feel deeper connected to all of you.
Here’s to our own imaginary dance my love.
May we be in awe together,
and while the world feels hazy,
may we find our own sliver of serenity.
